What should the generation X, Y Z, etc. learn? 

If there is no crisis situation, we need success skills to build a career. When crisis hits, we need survival skills to stay alive. Whichever, both are more useful than cramming the structure of plant cells and solving linear equations. Critical and analytical thinking, communication, collaboration and problem solving are part of the success skills. Yes, a sharp, working mind rather than a storage for facts, information and misbeliefs.  
To prepare for survival, we need skills like making food, clothing, shelter, and knowing about nature. 
Hoorray, we don't need science anymore? Well, we need it, when it is relevant. When we can use the information we will learn about the structure of plant cells.
